Jefferson No. 8 went by three different names according to records: Brush Center School, Cottonwood School, and the Cornith School. When the school closed following the 1951-1952 school year, the children were sent to the larger community school building in Diagonal. It was sold at an auction on September 26, 1955 with several local schoolhouses.
