Colfax No. 9 was opened in 1869 in section 31 of Colfax Township. The school closed in 1933 and moved into Orion Park in Grundy Center to be used as a memorial/museum in honor of one of its attendees, John Herbert Quick. Quick had been a student in Colfax No. 9 from age 8 through 16 before embarking on his careers in writing, education, and politics. In 1933 the school was named the Herbert Quick schoolhouse. The building saw a major renovation in 2016 that restored it to its 1869 appearance. As of 2024 it remains open to the public as a museum.
